rules:

learn 'em, love 'em, live 'em

race start

race start is 9:00 am central standard time on saturday, november 8, 2008. start location is TBD.
race officially ends at 3:00 pm central standard time on sunday, november 9, 2008. finish line is TBD.

time limit

you must complete the course in 30 hours or less to be considered an official finisher.

race number

your race number must be worn on the front and outside whatever clothing you are wearing.

disqualification

the registered runner is responsible for both their own behavior and that of their crew and/or pacers. if your crew and/or pacers violate the rules, you will be disqualified. make sure your crew understands this.

you will be disqualified for making forward progress on the course by any means other than running, walking or crawling (i.e. no car rides, bikes, skateboards, rollerskates, horses, etc.).

absolutely no littering!

you will be disqualified if you, your crew or your pacers are caught littering.

safety

you are expected to exercise appropriate caution, as there will be no traffic control.
runners must run on the left side of the road facing oncoming traffic unless otherwise directed.
several race officials will be roving the course
in the event of an emergency, call 911.
report any non-emergency problems to the volunteers at the aid stations. they will assist you or report the problem to the roving race officials.
there will be (# TBD) aid stations. the shortest distance is (TBD) miles, the longest is (TBD). we highly recommend you carry a water bottle, especially if it is warm.
use of trekking poles or headphones (walkmans, radios, etc.) is discouraged but allowed.

handlers and pacing

while there will be abundant supplies at the aid stations, runners may have handlers and/or crews. personal vehicles of handlers will display an identifying sign provided by the race director. to prevent road congestion, handlers must not drive alongside a runner at his or her pace. handlers should drive ahead to pull-offs or the next aid station to offer aid. no parking on the left side of the road unless otherwise directed! every runner may accept aid from any handler. handlers are encouraged to be alert to the condition of other runners besides their own and offer aid or assistance. this will help ensure the health and safety of all runners. pacers are allowed for runners after the (TBD) aid station. pacers do not pay an entry fee but must read, sign and turn in the waiver before the race start.

any runner accepting a ride for any reason is out of the race.

rest rooms

restrooms wil be available at the start, at every aid station, and at the finish. please use your discretion if nature demands you answer her call on the open road. much of the course is in the open country side and you will find ample cover for your needs. please be discrete.

aid stations

there will be an aid station in each town we go through. aid stations will be stocked with appropriate food and fluid. details will be posted here as soon as they are finalized.

there will be mandatory medical checkpoints. at mandatory medical checkpoints every runner must be weighed before hydrating. weight loss of 6% (of check-in weight) will result in a warning and the runner will be observed before continuing. weight loss of 7% will result in disqualification.

drop bags

extra supplies may be left at check in on Friday before 6 PM for delivery to aid stations. supplies must be in a durable bag, clearly marked with the runners bib number and the station to which it is to be delivered. most drop bags will be returned to the finish line by 2:00 PM on Sunday.
we are not responsible for lost, stolen or forgotten articles. arrangements must be made in advance for return of any items not picked up on sunday.

route marking

the course will be abundantly marked with spray chalk on the roadway and with signs at each turn. there will also be a route map posted at each aid station describing upcoming turns and distances to key points during the next leg. the same map set will be in the runner handbook you will get prior to the race.

quitting the race

if you decide to drop from the race, make certain that proper procedures are followed: the runner or crew must notify race personnel at once at the closest manned aid station.

parking

all parking signs must be followed. no parking is allowed in driveways or in the road. all parking at handler access stations must be out of traffic and must not block roads or driveways. handlers must follow directions of aid station personnel.
